MIDNIGHT KISSES

A bit of midnight kitchen fun turns these basic sugar cookies into melt-in-the-mouth snickerdoodles when rolled in cinnamon-flavored cocoa. Smack in the middle is a divinely rich, warm kiss of chocolate. Got milk?

MAKES 20 COOKIES

11/2 tablespoons Dutch-process cocoa powder

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 package (18 ounces) Break ’n Bake sugar cookies

20 Hershey’s Kisses, unwrapped

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Have ready 2 rimmed baking sheets. In a small bowl, mix together the cocoa powder and cinnamon.

Break apart the cookies and roll each piece into a ball. Roll the balls in the cocoa mixture and place 2 inches apart on the ungreased baking sheets. Bake the cookies for 11 minutes and then remove from the oven. Place a chocolate kiss in the center of each cookie, pressing down slightly. Return the cookies to the oven and bake until nicely browned, 2 to 3 minutes longer. Cool briefly; eat while they’re warm.

MUNCHIE TIP

No need to make all 20 cookies. (Are you kidding?) Seal up the package, keep refrigerated, and make another batch later.
